Work has now begun to refresh the Closing the Gap targets in-line with the information gathered from stakeholders at consultations held around the country. The first technical workshop was held recently in Sydney, with 70 subject experts, including representatives from Indigenous organisations and communities, academia and government taking part.

Working with the information gathered during the consultation process, participants collaborated to identify core issues and ideas that will drive greater opportunities and life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This work will feed into the next stage of development of SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound) targets for the Refresh.

A further technical workshop will be held over two days in June in Canberra to progress this important work with other key stakeholders, subject matter and data experts.
