Recently, the Commonwealth hosted a Closing the Gap Refresh Roundtable with Indigenous national peak bodies in Canberra.

The peak bodies emphasised the importance of self-determination and ensuring Indigenous Australians make decisions on issues that impact them. The participants supported the priority areas identified at the Special Gathering and much of the discussion focused on how best to implement the refreshed Closing the Gap agenda.

Some of the peaks who attended included the National Congress, Reconciliation Australia, The Healing Foundation and the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO).

This was the final roundtable in the first phase of national roundtables. Since November 2017, 18 National Roundtables have been held in urban, regional and remote Australia including Dubbo, Cairns, Sydney, Hobart, Port Lincoln, Thursday Island, Canberra and Alice Springs.

For a full list visit the Closing the Gap Refresh website.

A number of regional and local engagements will be led by the States and Territories in coming weeks. All Australians are invited to have their say on the future of Closing the Gap. For more information and to upload your submission visit the Closing the Gap Refresh website.

Submissions close 5PM (AEST) 30 April 2018.
